About The William Martin "Billy" Joel Caricatures by Don Howard

After completing the Elton John Caricature, at the prompting of a loyal fan it was time to work on some Billy Joel pictures, (honest, I was going to create a cartoon caricature picture of Billy Joel—maybe not with the Sir Elton John illustration at that particular time, but I promise, I would have gotten around to it), and I didn’t rest until I had drawn a Celebrity Caricature Art Print of Billy Joel! My favorite Billy Joel Song (as well as the wife’s) is “Piano Man”. I can identify with those lyrics, as it brought back fond, and not so fond, memories of when I relocated to Huntsville from California. Talk about “how ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm after they've seen Paree'”—all I wanted to do was head straight back to the BIG CITY! Ah, the life of an artist. But I didn’t and I thank God every day that he gave me the good sense not to. Anyhow, back to my cartoon drawing of Billy Joel--the piano was a given, and I was really feeling the lyrics of the song. . . “And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar” when I drew the glass jar filled with money. As you can see when you look at both of the illustrations, Billy Joel Pictures and Elton John Pictures, they were made for each other!
